World Info;
Sanitas, a world mostly dominated by five races, singing magic, gems, & a horrifying disease.
Races: Five races make up the population of Sanitas. Valere, a human like race, whose numbers are larger than the rest who also created the technologies of steam & gunpowder. Crescen, an elven race, who are the experts of Sanitas' magic & the planet itself. Kelva, a beastman race, who are nomads of the world & know more about the monsters & animals of the planet than anyone else. Aer, a winged race, who are very proud of their religion, their history, & themselves. And the Workers, a gnome race, probably the hardest working people on Sanitas. They cultivate & are always sought out to when it comes to excavating magical gems.It would be a lie to say that all five races are completely okay with one another. In Sanitas' earlier years there was a conflict over territory with the Valere, the Aer, & the Crescen. These three races banded together to drive out and destroy the massive amount of monsters within Sanitas to establish their grand kingdoms. Once rid of the beasts, they decided to devide the land amongst the three of them. The Aer, however, were left with high and cold mountains, which was hard to grow food. However, trade was easily rectified that as the Aer had access to magic gems. But an ambitious Aer heir decided that his race did not get a fair share due to the heavy loss of his people & since then the Aer has always been bitter towards & held animosity towards the other two races.
The Kelva & the Workers had already established their homes during the purge of the monsters. The Workers were already making their base by some mountains while the Kelva inhabitated the deserts & more humid areas. The first three races eventually meet & after a mutual understanding they decided to get along. For the most part, anyway. The Aer still believe they are owed something but because they aren't willing to risk open war, they keep the peace while still waiting for their time to shine.
Technology: Technology differes from race to race. Some kingdoms make use of their surroundings & have developed what they decided would be best to live with for their people. Amongst all though, the Valere are masters of technology & it's kingdom is more industrialized than the others. All technological inventions & discoveries were founded because of them, including steam power, gunpowder, modes of transportation. Most independent nations & cities have borrowed such technologies while others are more content living off the land. The Kelva, Workers, & Crescen use magic as well as small technologies to live while the Aer solely use magic gems.
Magic: There are two forms of magic in Sanitas: natural magic & condensed magic. Natural magic is used in the form of music, songs. In order to use natural magic, one would need to be born with the ability to sing & carry the weight of the magic in their voice while also understanding the meaning behind the words they are singing. Of course, not just any singer can use it. It is a special, magical ability to be born with. The first melodists were Crescen but eventually melodists from all races soon started to poke their heads. While powerful on their own, melodists are even stronger in a group. Chorists are rarely seen because of the potential danger their combined magic might hold but there are some scattered across the world. Some of the most powerful melodists in the world make up the Great Council of the Crescen & they know more than anyone else, the dangers behind natural magic.
Those who do wish to use magic, whether it be to fight, power a building with energy, or lighting up a room, rely on kyre gems - magical gems that are a less versitle version of natural magic. In order to use them, one would need to craft a slotted tool (most of these are rods, necklaces, bracelets, etc). The power of the magic used by the gem depends on its size. The smaller the gem, the lesser the uses you're going to get out of them. A small gem, probably around the size of a pebble will get a single, weak use while a gem the size of someone's hand will probably get more uses. The Workers are better at finding them than any of the other races & are the developers of the tools people need to use the magic while the Aer are experts on knowing useful ways to use the kyre stones.
The disease: There is a certain disease that threatens the lives of Sanitas' inhabitants & unlike most illnesses, this one can affect anyone & is feared by everyone. The people researching the disease call it 'telos' or the 'the end', because once someone shows the symptoms of this plague, there is no way of escaping. There are five stages of the telos disease though researchers determined that, although they all occur randomly, they all lead to the same fate - losing one's humanity & becoming a monster. Not just any monster of course. While most normal monsters on Sanitas can be tamed, monsters born from the plague are rabid, hateful beasts & are only bent on destroying. These monsters have been dubbed the Deimos.
No one knows whether the disease is hereditary or if it can even spread. The cause of the disease is currently unknown & unfortunately the cure for the disease is unknown as well. The only thing that is certain about it is that the infected slowly loses their senses, one by one, until they become one of the Deimos. The Deimos vary in size & intelligence. Some are horrible beasts, some twisted forms of people, some stupid, some intelligent. Their only drive is to swell their numbers, consume magic, and the destruction of Sanitas.
Background;
Minuet has always lived in the lower class for as long as she can remember. Anything other than what she was used to growing up with was totally weird! The Callaghan family have always struggled to survive in the South District of Arcadia and for that reason, the entire family worked hard together to run their business. As long as they worked as hard as they possibly could, the family was happy enough with whatever they got. They were one of those families that were happy with what they were able to provide despite the circumstances and because of that they were very well liked and that brought lots of business to their bakery.
Although she was young she enjoyed offering help to her family as they worked. She loved watching her grandfather knead dough, her mother bake cakes, and her father glaze bread with their homemade honey. It was like magic! Sometimes her older brother Connor would let her come along with him when he made deliveries. Even though she was young she wanted to be a part of it all. She loved her family and she wanted to take part in the family business. Her parents came up with the idea of having her go around the district, handing out small rolls of their famous honey glazed bread. She was still a little too young to be working in the kitchen but at the time Minuet was happy enough to do that if it meant she was helping her family.
Despite living in harsh conditions, the family was happy that they could bring just a little bit of joy to their neighbors.
Of course, just because they were happy didn't mean they were okay with the way the government handled its lower class citizens. Just like everyone else in the South District, Bridget and Seamus Callaghan could not tolerate the conditions to which their children were being brought up in and the King's way of handling the problems the poorer district faced. Unknown to Minuet, her parents were part of a small underground rebellion that strived to help make a difference in the kingdom. While his sister was blissfully unaware, Connor had a slight idea of what his parents were doing after the bakery closed its doors.
One night during an important operation, the Callaghan couple along with a small group of rebels were double crossed by a royal spy. The group was then eliminated and the operation failed. Because Connor was a curious lad, he ended up sticking close enough to see what was going on but kept a short distance away so that he couldn't be spotted. He watched his parents get assassinated right in front of him and he quickly ran home carrying the burden of sharing the news with his grandfather and younger sister.
Minuet was still young at the time but she was mature enough to realize what her brother meant when he said their parents weren't coming home and although she tried to act tough, she was still a child and was devastated by the news. Their grandfather then took it upon himself to raise both Connor and Minuet while still running the family business.
She was a tough cookie - she tried to be anyway - and bounced back just a few months later though it was difficult to say the same for her brother. Minuet watched her brother's attitude gradually change from a peppy outgoing boy to a dark, cynical person. She could tell he tried to keep face around her and their grandfather but he just wasn't the same Connor. Eventually his deliveries went to different parts of the district and he was hanging around different people she'd never seen before. She wasn't sure what was going on with her older brother but she had a feeling he was going down a bad path.
That feeling in her gut held true when Connor didn't return home one evening. Both Minuet and her grandfather went out to search for him but there was no positive result. After many days of searching, the two were forced to continue their lives without him. She was hopeful though and every night she spent an hour looking around the district, hoping to catch sight of him somewhere. Her search would even stretch out ot the other districts of the kingdom but to no avail.
Now the only one left in her life, Finnagan Callaghan, Minuet's grandfather, assumed role of her sole guardian and family member. Together with him she helped with the bakery while still faithfully waiting for her brother to return home never once doubting that he will come back one day.
Personality;
In contrast to her timid and kind grandfather, Minuet is an upbeat and optimistic sort of girl. It is thanks to her sunny attitude and people skills that the family business is still able to thrive with lots of happy customers and business partners. Even while her parents were alive she was rambunctious little tike and it was hard not to smile when you saw that little baby tooth grin. Minuet uses her girlish "charm" and her bouncing personality to make sure that all her grandfather's hard work pays off.
She's not like most girls in the other districts of Arcadia and having been brought up in the South District, she grew up to be quite a tomboy. Playing in the mud, climbing trees in a skirt, she did it all. It wasn't very rare that she would come home with a few scrapes or bruises. While she did get into a little scuffles and fights with a lot of the kids growing up, she was still pretty popular thanks to her sunny disposition. She's not afraid to stand up for herself or other people if she thinks she or someone else has been wronged.
Most recently she's begun to take on more responsibility on her shoulders than a normal girl her age should. Being the only one to help her grandfather run the bakery she now works three times as harder than anyone else. Even if she were told to rest or to take a break she would always insist that she's fine and continue to work therefor making her quite stubborn. She's also especially empathetic to those of poorer situations, much like herself, and can relate more to them than someone with wealthier roots. In that sense she doesn't quite have much respect for those in authority as she assumes they don't care much for the people they govern.
Despite how mature she tries to be, Minuet is still a young girl and she's prone to immaturity and childishness. She pouts her lips when something doesn't go her way and she has a habit of puffing her cheeks and kicking something when she's frustrated. That's not to say that she'll throw a tantrum when she doesn't get what she wants, but more that she's entitled to act more like a child than an adult in the long run especially when it comes to admitting when she's sad. Because she tries to act strong and happy for her grandfather but in reality she's sad about her parents and she's just as sad about her brother.

What the heck? How do I use this to talk? Who uses a bracelet to talk, this is totally weird! [her voice could be heard though so far there's nothing but black. doesn't seem like she's figured out how to work the video yet] I mean, aren't there less silly things to use?
[suddenly when the feed turns back on, the first thing one sees are bright pink eyes] Is this working yet? Hellooooo? Can anyone hear me?
[she sighs] This is dumb. I don't think anyone can hear me. Well! If someone out there with another one of these doo-hickies can hear me, can you tell me just what in the heck is going on! I gotta get to the bakery! Grandpa needs me!

"Thank you for coming! Have a good day! Please come again!"
Minuet smiled and waved as the last customer left the bakery with a box full of cream puffs. Another day, another happy customer. That's usually how things ended nowadays. What better to end a day with a smiling face? She certainly couldn't complain about that.
As soon as the bell above the door rang one last time, she locked the door and went about her evening routine; sweeping up the bakery, wiping down counters and making sure every pastry and cookie was accounted for.
"There!" When she was finally finished she met with an elderly man humming to himself back in the kitchen. "Hey Grandpa! I'm all done with closing up. I'm gonna go out, okay?" Once she got the okay she would continue on with her nightly schedule outside.
Outside the sun was setting with a blood orange hue as it dipped into the horizon. She took a deep breath as the brisk air evening air greeted her. Hands moved to rub at her arms as she walked along the cobblestone streets in no particular direction. It didn't seem like she had anywhere specific she needed to go but she was obviously out there for a reason.
"Woo! What a busy day!" Hands joined behind her back and her head tilted up to the color gradient in the sky. Yep, it was definitely getting darker out. "You wouldn't believe all the work I had to do today, big bro. It was like everyone in the district wanted something to eat from us!" There was definitely no one around but she was most certainly talking to someone. Or, that's what she believed she was doing. Even though by now everyone assumed he disappeared, she knew he was there somewhere. He had to be - there was no way he'd abandon them.
"It was really busy but we did our best. Even grandpa went out to talk to some customers! Hehe, can you believe that? He was so happy today! You should've seen his face! I wish I could've taken a picture." What she really wished was that things could go back to normal, that she could have her big brother back home... but she wouldn't say that out loud. She didn't want him to know she was sad!
"Um..! So I made my first cake today! All by myself! From start to finish!" It was definitely something worth telling her big brother. "You see what happened was..." And she would go on, talking to what looked like to be herself as she walked all throughout the South District. She would talk about her day, about the people she helped and how much her grandfather made her laugh - a typical conversation someone would have would with their family member. Only this case Minuet was by herself, though she didn't feel like she was.
By the time she returned home, the kyre gems lighting up the street lanterns were lit and a dark violet sky replaced the warm red one that sat above the kingdom just earlier. All but one candle at the entrance of the Callaghan home was lit. It could be assumed that her grandfather lit it before he retired for the night. She kicked off her shoes and sat in the big comfy chair facing the door. On the table beside it rested a plate of cookies, a glass of milk and that candle. Though those cookies looked enticing, the thought of sleep was a lot more tempting.
Minuet pulled her legs to her chest as her eyes stared at the front door. Some day her brother will walk through that door. He'll come home with some crazy story about an adventure he just had to go on and why it took him so long to come home. Yeah.. that's what will definitely happen. And she'll be there to welcome him home. She'll be a good girl and wait for her big brother. Just like every other night.
"Night night big bro... see you tomorrow.."
